PASADENA, Texas – The San Jacinto College Board of Trustees approved the 2026 tax rate for the College District during its regularly scheduled September meeting. This rate is the same as the prior year and includes increased exemptions for taxpayers.
The rate approved by the Board is 15.4615 cents per $100 valuation of taxable property located within the San Jacinto Community College District, which is the same total tax rate as the prior year. It is comprised of an assessment for maintenance and operations (10.8407 cents) and a separate debt service tax rate (4.6208 cents). The approved 2026 tax rate is lower than the calculated no-new-revenue tax rate of 15.7264 cents. The no-new-revenue tax rate is the rate that provides the taxing unit with approximately the same amount of property tax revenue on existing property it received in the previous year, less estimated refunds from disputed values.
For calendar year 2026, the median-valued homestead residence in the San Jacinto Community College District is $181,062. This is a 4% decrease from the 2025 median-valued homestead residence of $188,555 which is a tax savings of $11.58 to a homeowner with a residence of this taxable value. The decrease in tax is directly related to the increase in the College’s homestead and over 65/disabled exemptions that were approved by the Board of Trustees at the April regular meeting.
“The Board recognizes concerns over rising costs and property taxes and has done its part to maintain a responsible approach to the College’s tax rate by keeping it at the same rate as last year,” said Mr. Dan Mims, Chair, San Jacinto College Board of Trustees. “As taxpayers ourselves, we understand the financial pressures facing families and businesses in our communities. Maintaining a stable tax rate reflects our commitment to fiscal responsibility while ensuring San Jacinto College has the resources necessary to provide high-quality education and training that prepares students for successful careers and strengthens our region’s workforce.”
San Jacinto College has also increased both the homestead exemption by 3% and the over 65/disabled exemption by $13,000, despite a decrease in taxable values of nearly 1% over the prior year.
